It’s that time of the year to think about enrollment in healthcare before it closes next year. Open enrollment began in November and the deadline to enroll is December 7th. It can be a headache to make decisions when it comes to healthcare. What plan do you want? Where do you go to register? How much will monthly fees cost?

To help with this, the Alabama State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is going to host an event two days before open enrollment ends. The program is administered by the United Way Area Agency on Aging of Jefferson County, which will host nine Medicare enrollment events in the county, including Birmingham. This will be held at United Way of Central Alabama, located at 3600 8th Avenue South.

For those who want to know more about Medicare and enrollment, SHIP representatives will be on hand to provide advice, including to those signing up for the first time and for those who want to make changes to their current coverage plans.

If you’re thinking about attending then it’s suggested that you bring your Medicare card, Social Security card, proof of gross monthly income, a list of medications by name and daily dosage, as well as quantity. No one will have to worry about paying to get in because the event is free and open to the public.

The event will be held on December 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling 1-800-243-5463.
